Interdisciplinary Communication Coordinator

Responsibilities
Developing strategies for easing the ability of communications staff within units to create standard approaches and branding for units to feature their work
Develop mechanisms for individual units to easily contribute to a common newsletter and find mechanisms to feature key events and tell stories of the novel ways NC State is facilitating interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and problem solving
Incorporate data driven storytelling and visualization techniques in this work
Develop novel communication approaches
Convene the comms team within OUIP and work closely with, and report to, the Senior Vice Provost of University Interdisciplinary Programs working closely with the Provost’s Office Communications team
Craft specialized and professional communications for the Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs that build on the work of individual programs (e.g., newsletters and “spotlights” on faculty, staff and students)
Create and distribute promotional materials for events (e.g., event calendars)
Share OUIP’s efforts and mission with updates to LinkedIn and elsewhere in the social media landscape
Update and maintain OUIP’s Wordpress website, particularly the events page
Create systems to collectively manage both public and internal databases for events
Work with the Provost’s Office Communications team to streamline brand practices for OUIP divisional communicators to create consistently branded materials such as brochures, slide decks, handouts, and other media as needed
Identify priorities for OUIP as a whole vs. individual priorities of the units, particularly in promoting events and initiatives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment plus 5 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions
Ability to tell stories and craft data-driven visuals that connect to a variety of audiences (primarily students/campus, donors/alumni and program-specific audiences)
Ability to communicate complex information with clarity and professionalism
Combination of big-picture and detail-oriented thinking to effectively assess and address communications needs and efforts across multiple units
Ability to evaluate the impact of various communications, events, and outreach initiatives and identify the target audience
Experience leveraging social media platforms as a means of promoting visibility and connecting others with the office's mission and efforts
Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with administrators and academics across campus
Comfort with running meetings and acting as a lead within a group of other experienced communications professionals
High level of organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate organizational needs and priorities in a way that is clear, professional, and friendly
Comfort with rapidly adapting to changing communication landscapes, strategies, and priorities
Curiosity and interest in wide-ranging scholarly/university topics (that range from AI driven molecular innovation to the music produced by decaying organisms to the genetics of silk production and beyond)
Preferred
Comfort/familiarity with AP style
Familiarity with graphic design software (e.g., Canva/Adobe Design) and ability to stay up to date with new relevant technology and programs
Experience with managing a Wordpress backend, ideally within higher ed
Familiarity with Google suite and other tools for working on hybrid/distance teams
Interest in science and engineering
