Public Health Intern - Chronic Disease Prevention

Larimer County Department of Health and Environment is seeking a Public Health Intern for their Strategic Planning, Health Equity, and Partnerships Team. The intern will collaborate on chronic disease assessments, research community health needs, and engage with community groups to enhance chronic disease prevention efforts.

Responsibilities

Collaborate on a formal chronic disease community assessment
Research chronic disease prevalence in our community and existing efforts to prevent or manage chronic disease
Meet with community groups and help host focus groups to incorporate community voice into our strategic work
Review community focus groups and population-level data to better understand the community needs for chronic disease management and prevention
Research current models for preventing and managing chronic disease
Assist in capacity building efforts for our team to launch more chronic disease prevention and care work over the next three years
Attend team meetings to discuss the project and help out on other initiatives as needed
Attend community engagement events to share culturally relevant health resources
Gain skills and knowledge related to the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals including but not limited to Health Equity Skills, Community Partnership Skills, and Communication Skills

Required

Sophomore-level coursework in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field, required
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License required
Be familiar with general office practices and procedures
Proficiently use routine software and business application including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Read and comprehend department and County rules, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures
Takes initiative and can work both independently and in a group
Have regular, predictable attendance and work between 10-15 hours per week in a hybrid capacity
Develop good time management skills
Multi-task and complete work in a timely manner in a busy work environment
Understanding of social needs, social determinants of health, and health equity
Practice public health skills, potentially including data analysis, background research, and interviewing or focus group facilitation

Preferred

Colorado School of Public Health or Department of Environmental Health student at Colorado State University preferred
