Accounting Manager

Course is a global communications technology company headquartered in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, seeking a highly motivated Accounting Manager to support its growing finance function. This role will focus on revenue recognition, inventory and cost accounting, and financial reporting, requiring a solid foundation in U.S. GAAP.

Responsibilities

Lead month-end, quarter-end, and annual accounting close activities
Prepare and review journal entries related to revenue cutoffs, deferred revenue, rebates, and stock rotations
Execute inventory and cost accounting processes, including capitalization and valuation under ASC 330
Own quarterly processes around excess and obsolete inventory reserves and supplier commitments
Coordinate revenue recognition reviews, including support for new product launches and contract analysis
Collaborate with technical accounting leadership on research and drafting of white papers and memos
Develop and refine accounting processes to support ongoing automation and system enhancements
Partner with FP&A and external reporting on flux analysis and disclosures for SEC filings (10-Q, 10-K)
Support SOX 404 compliance, internal controls, and process remediation
Provide workpapers and schedules for external audits and tax support
Drive process improvement initiatives and special projects, including systems implementations
Maintain effective working relationships with business, operations, and finance stakeholders

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree preferred
CPA or CMA required
Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience, with at least 4 years in public accounting (audit or consulting)
Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 606 and ASC 330
Experience with revenue recognition for subscription models and variable consideration
Familiarity with inventory, supply chain, and manufacturing accounting practices
Strong analytical and organizational skills; proactive and results-driven
Experience in the technology, telecommunications, or SaaS industries strongly preferred
Proficiency with Excel (including VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and Power BI
Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or Zuora is a plus
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
