ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN 4 - ADVANCED SUBMARINE ENGINEERING
Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician 4 to provide technical support on advanced submarine engineering projects. The role involves guiding the development of mechanical systems and coordinating with Navy counterparts to ensure the execution of innovative designs for the next generation of submarines.

Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and guidance to teams developing submarine mechanical systems
Guide the development of innovative new designs and provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team
Coordinate with Navy counterparts and conduct periodic briefs to the Navy and working groups
Strong background in submarine design with a comprehensive knowledge of the engineering and design process related to mechanical systems
Extensive knowledge in submarine systems and system integration
Experience in submarine construction and/or overhaul
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to support the development and presentation of technical reports and briefs to NNS leadership or the Navy, and coordinating with vendors and industry partners

Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications: NNS Apprentice School graduate, Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate, High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
Strong background in submarine design with a comprehensive knowledge of the engineering and design process related to mechanical systems
Extensive knowledge in submarine systems and system integration
Experience in submarine construction and/or overhaul
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to support the development and presentation of technical reports and briefs to NNS leadership or the Navy, and coordinating with vendors and industry partners
Preferred
Knowledge of submarine mechanical systems and how they interface with structural, electrical, and other mechanical systems
An understanding of an array of mechanical products, such as hydraulic and electric actuators, linkages/cam-sliders, pumps and valves, HVAC systems, structural weldments, welded or fastened joints, and others
Experience in traditional and computer-based methodologies for the design and modeling of components
The ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture within a diverse set of team members and stakeholders
Exhibit an openness to continuous learning and development in a dynamic environment
Operational experience on commissioned or under construction Navy vessels is a plus
