Information Systems Student Specialist

Education Service Center, Region 2 is seeking an Information Systems Student Specialist to provide technical assistance and support to local education agencies. The role focuses on ensuring accurate implementation and use of student information systems, along with compliance with state reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

Provide technical assistance and support to local education agencies to ensure accurate implementation and use of student information systems and compliance with state reporting requirements
Support PEIMS and TSDS reporting and assist districts with student data processes in systems such as Ascender and Skyward and future TEA-approved platforms
Ensure compliance with ESC and Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements for maintaining accurate, complete, and timely student records and data submissions
Assess regional LEA needs related to TSDS PEIMS reporting and student data management, and provide targeted technical assistance, consultation, and training
Deliver high-quality technical support and customer service to LEA and ESC staff through on-site visits, virtual platforms, telephone, and written communication
Provide consultation and support for student information systems and reporting tools, including Ascender, Skyward, TSDS (PEIMS Core Collections), OnDataSuite, and future TEA-approved systems
Plan, develop, and facilitate training for LEA staff on supported software, system updates, and procedural or regulatory changes affecting student data and reporting
Serve as a Regional PEIMS Coordinator, supporting districts with data accuracy, submission timelines, and resolution of reporting errors
Maintain professional ethics, confidentiality, and approachability in all interactions with districts, ESC staff, vendors, and state partners
Collaborate with other Education Service Centers, TEA representatives, and internal ESC departments to enhance statewide consistency and service delivery
Promote and communicate available ESC services to existing and prospective clients to support regional participation and program sustainability
Maintain a professional work environment that supports staff morale and advances the mission of the Center
Keep administration informed of issues, trends, or risks that may impact student data reporting, district compliance, or ESC services

Required

Bachelor´s degree in education, computer science, or related field required
1-3 years of database or PEIMS experience (required)
Knowledge of TEA student data standards and TSDS PEIMS reporting requirements
Experience with student information systems used by Texas school districts, including Ascender, Skyward, or similar platforms
Ability to analyze, validate, and troubleshoot student data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely submission
Understanding of student attendance, enrollment, and program coding as related to funding and accountability
Strong technical assistance, training, and customer service skills when working with district staff
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Effective communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain data confidentiality

Preferred

3+ years of central office or teaching experience (preferred)
