Zoning Planner I - Planning and Development

The City of Phoenix is responsible for guiding the physical development of the city. They are seeking a Planner I in the Zoning Division who will prepare zoning reports, assist at public hearings, and help customers with zoning compliance and application processing.

Required

Bachelor's degree in city or urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering, architecture, political science, or a related field
One year of planning experience
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage

Preferred

Experience giving public presentations, meetings, and hearings
Experience with plan review and/or reviewing site plans
Experience with planning and zoning research
Customer service experience, particularly experience in a front counter customer service environment
Experience using GIS or other mapping software
Experience applying local, state and federal requirements and regulations related to zoning and building codes
Spanish speaking is preferred
