Inspector III - Public Works Maintenance Operations

The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome an Inspector III to the Public Works Maintenance Operations team! As an Inspector III, you will perform highly technical preliminary, interim, and final construction inspections for assigned engineering projects including roads, bridges, and drainage facilities.

Responsibilities

Inspect construction, replacement, and repair projects in the public right-of-way
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and specifications
Oversee subdivision construction functions
Review and inspect construction, the final release of financial assurances, and acceptance of improvements within the public right-of-way and public easements
Oversee grading and erosion control to ensure conformance to City Engineering Standards and Specifications
Respond to all grading complaints and thoroughly investigate to help resolve any conflicts that may arise
Investigate citizen and business complaints; ensure all work completed complies with City codes and engineering standards, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) regulations, and approved engineering specifications and plans; prepare related reports, and resolve the complaint if possible
Research and compile technical data for assigned engineering activities including capital improvements construction operations
Understand storm drain operations, capabilities, and limitations of equipment
Coordinate concrete right-of-way repairs with the proper department, contact property owners as necessary
Operate a single/tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operations
Perform manual labor such as cleaning culverts, mowing, patching potholes, removing debris, and shoveling asphalt and snow

Required

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
Five years of full-time, professional experience in a related field
Possess and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restrictions

Preferred

An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering technology or a related field
Inspection certifications in material testing, especially in asphalt paving, concrete placement, and drainage maintenance
Understanding of snow removal practices
Experience with overseeing drainage functions
Possess upon hire and maintain a valid non-probationary Colorado Class B CDL not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
