Guides their team's review of supplier or partner products and participates in making supplier or partner selection decisions to support product development
Independently develops design documentation which could include drawings, specifications, schematics, or diagrams that contribute to the development of complex, new products or features. Provides guidance to other engineers on the use of fundamental features of modeling tools and facilitates design reviews by providing and collecting feedback on designs
Contributes to engineering system design decisions that account for platform-specific technology decisions (e.g., Radio Frequency, Camera, Sensors, Touch) by sharing details about design decisions and needs with internal cross-functional stakeholders
Creates and executes on robust, scalable, secure, and extensible designs and/or verification plans that account for current industry/competitive threats for the electrical engineering aspects of a variety of established, complex products or feature areas
Develops and implements solutions to complex technical and/or design challenges that may involve multiple technical and business-related variables. Applies lessons learned to develop future focused solutions to complex design challenges
Writes internal device specification sheets. Reads device specification sheets and interprets complex details required to design and test various hardware features
Uses root cause analysis to identify highly complex problems or flaws that may affect a range of features or product design changes. Identifies possible solutions to novel and complex problems
Provides make-versus-buy recommendations to management with tradeoffs based on complexity, financial impact, quality, reliability, and time duration. Influences decision making with stakeholders working on similar products
Displays deep knowledge in a specific and complex engineering domain or knowledge in multiple technical areas. Shares and acquires advanced knowledge of industry trends, competitors' products, the customer experience, and advances in various engineering fields
Participates in creating intellectual property and conducts technical due diligence. May file patents within own area of scope and completing necessary patent documentation
Participates in simulation of a complex components or subassemblies to ensure design is robust and to virtually test hardware features under different environments and/or conditions
Writes customized reports and functional specifications for an established product or product feature, based on audits and information from product development and verification processes. Reviews and provides feedback on other engineers' documentation. Recommends standardized procedures for teams to follow
Documents complex details about materials, components, and/or functionality for complex devices via accepted release processes and highlights potential compatibility issues. Accurately records and tracks changes to designs following established processes and provides guidance to other engineers documenting these details
Resolves design issues, identifies recurring issues, and makes recommendations for necessary design changes and design tradeoffs (e.g., extendibility or refurbishing) for multiple products
Communicates project progress/status within and external to the project team (e.g., to customers and partners) and escalates issues as necessary
Implements and tracks product plans that account for the user experience, enable customer/partner testing scenarios, identify critical requirements (e.g., function, quality, safety, reparability, and/or reliability) and are verifiable
Recognizes trends to optimize existing processes, or creates new processes that can be used by similar product-unit disciplines
Generates project implementation schedules, monitors performance against schedules, and helps determine resource dependencies for the hardware engineering aspects of complex features or products. Guides other team members
Researches and identifies new tools, technologies, or processes for project implementation to improve product quality, performance, and reliability
Identifies the most significant project risks (e.g., supplier or partner delays, incomplete specs, or tool issues) at the outset of a project, and develops plans to address those risks. Incorporates learnings from previous projects
Creates dashboards or reports for testing and quality metrics based on hardware characterization and performance data, in partnership with other internal groups (e.g., IT, Testing)
Reviews the automated testing solutions with reusability, extendibility, and scalability and helps with complex debugging within a product line. Seeks out opportunities for automation
Writes design verification test cases by identifying new tools, test methodologies, and/or best practices that include elements such as success metrics and tracking systems
Develops, reviews, and executes test plans and/or infrastructure for complex or large sized scope feature areas or products. Provides guidance to other engineers to execute test plans
Develops test fixtures for use in testing and/or validation of new product features. Provides guidance to other engineers in developing test fixtures for basic features
Creates new verification plans and anticipates the types of test equipment required for measuring features of new product technology. Participates in the design and development of new, specialized equipment as needed for testing new or unique hardware
Uses data and statistical analysis to identify highly complex problems or flaws that may affect a range of features or product design changes. Identifies possible solutions to novel and complex problems
Guides other engineers in how to set up and break down testing environment. Outlines safety and testing guidelines for other engineers
Creates external testing supplier or partner engagement plans, evaluates supplier or partner readiness, and captures knowledge for use across the product. Defines the format of the content to be reported by the external supplier or partner
Reviews documentation to help ensure that the appropriate test requirements and improvements are included in relevant hardware designs and specifications by applying an understanding of how complex features or products work under a variety of customer scenarios
