Knowledge Management and Outreach Advisor
American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts behavioral and social science research and delivers technical assistance. Responsibilities
The Advisor will plan and execute all FEWS NET briefings, including recurring Global, Regional, and Country-Level briefings, as well as ad hoc and rapid-response briefings. Responsibilities include end-to-end briefing implementation—planning, agenda development, live delivery, and post-event follow-up—in coordination with the Communications Team, Learning team and analytical staff
The Advisor will support:
Global briefings providing high-level synthesis and strategic context
Regional briefings emphasizing cross-border dynamics and regional implications
Country-level engagements aligned with embassy, mission, and bureau priorities
Special-purpose and leadership briefings, including thematic deep dives and crisis-driven updates
The role includes maintaining run-of-show documentation, speaker guidance, rehearsal schedules, and coordinating across multiple time zones to ensure consistent quality and professional delivery
The Advisor will assess, recommend, and implement appropriate virtual briefing platforms and tools, considering audience size, accessibility, security, and budget. Responsibilities include coordinating with vendors and service providers for production needs such as interpretation, captioning, recording, and accessibility
The Advisor will also support preparation and dissemination of post-briefing assets—including recordings, short videos, summaries, and learning materials—to extend the reach and instructional value of briefings beyond live events
The Advisor will support proactive and timely outreach for all briefings, working with the Hub and Communications Team to leverage CRM data and contact lists to target outreach by region, country, bureau, and thematic relevance while minimizing duplicative communications
The Advisor will assist in expanding engagement with non-traditional audiences, including academic institutions, research organizations, and training programs, and support packaging of FEWS NET briefings and content for educational and instructional use
The Advisor will coordinate with project stakeholders to align briefing agendas and timelines with analytical production cycles, accommodate timely analytical updates, and ensure briefings accurately reflect and reinforce FEWS NET analytical products and messaging
Provide strategic KM support as needed in areas such as:
Support the Hub in identifying, capturing, and synthesizing critical insights from across the project to ensure that institutional knowledge is preserved and accessible to stakeholders
Advise on and implement strategies to improve the exchange of technical information between analytical teams, leadership, and external partners to minimize silos
Provide strategic guidance on the organization, lifecycle management, and discoverability of project assets to ensure high-value analysis remains relevant and retrievable over time
Support the adaptation of complex technical methodologies into streamlined knowledge products that meet the evolving information needs of non-technical decision-makers
Provide learning and capacity building support as needed, to support the Learning Specialist, in areas such as:
Support continued design and provide content for various learning interventions (e.g., informal peer exchanges, structured training) to strengthen the food security literacy of diverse stakeholder groups
Support the development of frameworks and resources that help internal and external partners better understand and apply FEWS NET’s data and analytical products
Develop and implement outreach-based learning strategies that onboard new partners and 'non-traditional' audiences to FEWS NET’s core methodologies and tools
Establish mechanisms for evaluating the effectiveness of communication and engagement efforts, ensuring that feedback is translated into iterative improvements for project-wide learning
The Advisor will track participation, engagement, and feedback across recurring, ad hoc, and surge briefings; support review of briefing and mission readouts; and use qualitative and quantitative insights to recommend improvements to briefing formats, outreach strategies, and surge-response processes
Qualification
Required
Master's degree with 7 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 9 years of relevant experience
Extensive experience supporting virtual or hybrid briefings, learning engagements, or events for global audiences
Proven experience selecting and implementing virtual event, learning, and communications technologies
Familiarity with international development, food security, or related policy sectors
Experience coordinating briefings involving multilingual audiences or interpretation is highly desirable
Strong project management and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize work, track tasks to completion, and consistently meet deadlines
Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy in writing and reporting
Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis
