Responsibilities

Evaluate and develop programs to increase public and internal awareness of agency activities

Track communication, media events, outreach, and activities for analysis

Author speeches, quotes, business letters, articles, editorials, letters, and reports for key officials

Prepare and approve outreach campaigns and branding

Establish and maintain social media presence aligned with agency initiatives

Direct a professional public information staff in complex assignments

Evaluate and develop programs to increase public awareness of agency activities

Lead the agency's relationship with the state's news media

Recommend personnel and budget activities for assigned areas

Maintain a professional work environment complied with EEO and promote equal opportunity, anti-harassment, and other agency HR and safety policies

Required

A bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of responsible experience in journalism, mass media communications, public relations, or related field

Knowledge of journalistic principles and practices and techniques of disseminating information to the public through new media

Extensive knowledge of English usage, spelling, punctuation, and grammar and of writing and editing techniques

Ability to creatively and effectively write, edit and design reports and other publications covering agency subject matter within timelines and deadlines

Ability to communicate and speak effectively in public

Management experience in onboarding, training, and mentoring employees

Position may require overnight travel; position drives routinely as part of their job; position requires overtime work
