The Lead Ontology Engineer will be responsible for designing and evolving ontologies and knowledge graphs that enable autonomous systems to understand manufacturing realities and coordinate complex workflows.

Responsibilities

Model machines, tools, materials, parts, and manufacturing processes as first-class semantic entities
Design and maintain ontologies and knowledge graphs that power reasoning across the factory and its digital twin
Encode constraints, affordances, and relationships that reflect real physical and operational limits
Partner closely with robotics, simulation, and ML teams to establish shared semantics across systems
Ensure semantic representations remain stable and extensible as the factory evolves
Translate messy, real-world manufacturing knowledge into formal, computable structure

Required

Deep experience with ontologies, knowledge graphs, or semantic systems in complex domains
Comfort working close to physical systems, robotics, manufacturing, or cyber-physical environments
Strong instincts for modeling reality, not abstractions for their own sake
Ability to collaborate across disciplines while owning a critical technical foundation
Enjoyment of early-stage ambiguity and building foundational infrastructure from scratch
