Responsibilities

Financial Filings and Tax Compliance: This involves leading the Medica and UHG accounting teams to produce accurate and timely financial filings to various regulators periodically and upon request; and directing the tax compliance function which is handled by Medica employees and our tax vendor, RSM
Financial Reporting: This involves ensuring all financial activity is accurate in the reporting tool and available for further analysis by analysts throughout the company. It includes financial reporting for the Board Finance Committee, as directed by the CFO, managing final month end close meetings where variances are identified and explained for producing board reports, and producing ad-hoc financial reports and models as directed by the VP, Treasury and Financial Reporting
Consulting on Financial Models, Projections and Operating Budgets: This involves the following: Providing consultative support to the organization in programming models used for intercompany administrative expense charges, Sherlock benchmark studies, Medicare Cost Reports, ORSA, and other regulatory reporting; producing interactive reporting to various audiences at Medica, including senior leadership, programming new reports as needs change; training “super users” of modeling technology on appropriate modeling techniques and controls to ensure output is validated for completeness and accuracy; supporting the Director of Financial Planning in producing quarterly “Outlook” financial projections and annual budgets, ensuring the models are working as intended; and, once approved by senior leadership and the board, coordinating the upload of final budgets and plans into the appropriate downstream systems, such as the general ledgers
Cash Management: This involves forecasting cash needs and managing a line of credit ($200 million) to balance working cash and investments
Financial Systems Management for Corporate Finance: This involves ensuring the use of appropriate systems, negotiating business terms with system vendors, implementing new financial tools, training staff on the use of the systems, and ensuring appropriate internal controls are in place for each system. Manages access to all of the systems to ensure the security of our data, allowing team members the access needed for their roles

Required

Bachelor's degree in finance, math, business, healthcare or equivalent experience in related field
10+ years of experience beyond degree in healthcare FP&A required
5+ years direct FP&A leadership experience required
Experience in budgeting, forecasting and the development of complex financial models within business environments / industries that consist of a fair amount of uncertainty and rapid change
Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, particularly new laws related to health care reform
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
Self-directed and can develop and lead a technical team if needed
Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data
Strong project management skills
Strong drive for results and accountability
Ability to articulate vision and strategy
Creative problem solving skills using innovative approaches
Effective handling multiple complex projects with a high degree of engagement
Demonstrated leadership and influencing skills with the ability to lead and drive change
Strong strategic planning skills
