Responsibilities

As a Golf Maintenance Support team member, you will assist leadership, including the Director and Superintendents in planning and executing daily tasks such as mowing, topdressing, irrigation, and fertilization across all greens, tees, fairways, and roughs
As a Team Lead, you will guide and mentor the golf maintenance team, ensuring adherence to high standards and protocols while learning the responsibilities of an Assistant Superintendent
Serve as the primary point of contact for staff, provide direction for daily assignments, coach skill development, and act as a liaison between the team and management to address issues promptly
Assist with scheduling, standup meetings, training, performance reviews, and documentation
Responsible for training other team members assigned to similar tasks
Oversee hand-watering of greens, watering in applied chemicals or fertilizers as needed, and assist in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the irrigation system to ensure efficient water distribution
As a Spray Technician, you will work under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent to manage the health and nutrition of the turf through precise chemical and fertilizer applications
Expertly apply fertilizers and pesticides across resort properties using hand spreaders, push spreaders, hand sprayers, and riding sprayers, ensuring all equipment is properly calibrated
Assist in implementing and monitoring pest and disease management programs to maintain premium turf conditions
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all chemical and fertilizer applications and related maintenance activities
Execute best practices for environmental responsibility to protect the natural surroundings of the golf course, landscape grounds, and maintenance facilities
In the role of Equipment Operator, you will safely utilize and maintain a variety of machinery, including sprayers and utility vehicles, while ensuring all operations adhere to strict safety protocols
Support the safe operation and upkeep of golf course equipment, ensuring all machinery is functional and addressing mechanical issues promptly
Serve as a lead equipment operator and trainer, ensuring all staff members are proficient and safely trained in the proper use of all tools and maintenance equipment
Uphold and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure environment for all staff and guests
Participate in golf course improvements, landscaping enhancements, and renovation projects under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent
Assist in managing the department budget by contributing to cost-control measures and expense forecasting
Perform all other tasks as assigned to support the needs of the Golf Maintenance Department

Required

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
Industry Experience: Minimum of two years' experience in golf course maintenance operations
Agronomic Applications: Prior experience with golf course chemical and fertilizer applications is required
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of golf course maintenance, landscaping, spray and chemical applications, equipment operation, and irrigation systems
Work Ethic & Problem Solving: Strong work ethic, high adaptability, and the ability to solve problems independently
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills for team coordination, guest interactions, and mentoring colleagues
Learning Agility: Strong active listening skills, ability to take direction, ask questions, and commit to continuous learning
Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail to ensure the golf course is consistently maintained to the highest standards
Golf Knowledge: Strong understanding of the basic principles and etiquette of golf
Language & Instruction: Ability to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions in English independently, including immediate safety commands
Autonomy: Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision, follow directions, and successfully complete assignments
Safety & Compliance: Adherence to all safety protocols and procedures
Equipment Operation: Proficient in operating a wide range of golf maintenance equipment, from hand tools to all mower operations
Time Management: Strong time management skills and the ability to effectively multi-task in a busy work environment
Required Licensing: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, at least one of the following certifications within 90 days of hire or promotion: State of Florida Commercial Turf & Ornamental License, Florida Golf Course Best Management Practices (BMP) Certification, Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) Certification, Limited Commercial Fertilizer Applicator License
Physical Agility: Ability to stand and remain mobile for the duration of a full shift, with the capacity to stoop, kneel, bend, and reach repeatedly in a fast-paced environment
Strength & Stamina: Capable of safely lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds
Environmental Exposure: Comfort working in a variety of conditions, including prolonged outdoor exposure to Florida's heat, humidity, and inclement weather, as well as indoor maintenance areas
Sensory Proficiency: Must possess the visual acuity, hearing, and olfactory senses necessary to monitor equipment performance and identify chemical applications; maintain high manual dexterity for the precise operation of tools and machinery

Preferred

Preferred Education: A degree in Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or a related field is preferred
Leadership: Managerial or supervisory experience is preferred, but not mandatory
Professional Education: Enrollment in or completion of coursework in Turf Management, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience and education will be considered
