Senior Accountant
Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives (CNI) is a nonprofit organization focused on neighborhood revitalization through real estate development and lending activities. The Senior Accountant will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, provide strategic insights for real estate assets, and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

Responsibilities
Record daily/weekly accounting activity, including upload of cash receipts and accounts payable for subsidiary entities
Maintenance of general ledgers, generation of monthly financial statements and supporting workpapers for consolidated and subsidiary entities
Prepare monthly analysis of financial results in comparison to company’s budget for all entities
Proactively catch errors and research accounting discrepancies. Develop solutions and recommend improvements, as necessary
Work with team members to ensure accounting and loan servicing platforms agree monthly
Prepare supplementary documents and perform tasks related to audits
Act as conduit between CNI and fiscal agent customers and third-party entities, which includes but not limited to preparation of monthly financials and all other requirements
Ensure all internal and external Compliance Reports are completed and submitted as outlined in loan and grant agreements with the development of compliance systems and controls for CNI and its subsidiaries
Maintain Insurance files, ensuring all operations and program-related Insurance Certificates are updated and active as required and provide certificates to project partners as needed
Maintain communication with outside consultants and clients on NMTC and third-party program reporting and compliance, confirming deadlines are met
Communicate to CNI staff and external business partners regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures
Maintain and present at weekly meetings grant compliance and reporting for CNI and Affiliates
Work with Operations Analyst to maintain grants report
Schedule Compliance Meetings
Collaborate with Vice President of Finance and CNI Teams to identify process gaps, build solutions, and drive operational improvement
All Other Duties as Assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum of five years of accounting experience
At least two years in a property management or real estate environment
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team and fast-paced environment
Proficient with QuickBooks
Knowledge of GAAP
Advanced proficiency in Excel
Preferred
Prior audit experience
Familiar with SharePoint
Familiar with Smartsheet
