Senior/Staff Content Designer, Technical (CDC)

The Senior/Staff Content Designer will create clear and inclusive content, ensuring accuracy and accessibility while collaborating with various experts to enhance user experiences.

Responsibilities
Improve public services by shaping content that meets user needs in plain language, with inclusive and accessible patterns
Write, edit, and organize content across complex flows — including interface copy, system messages, notifications, in-product guidance, help content, and documentation
Apply accessibility and compliance standards — including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 508) — from the start
Collaborate with privacy, legal, and security experts to design clear notices, consent patterns, and data-handling explanations that build trust
Test content with users, run content experiments, and iterate based on evidence; define content success measures such as objectives and key results (OKRs) and key performance indicators (KPIs)
Establish content governance and operations at scale — including content models, standards, review workflows, and reusable patterns in design systems
Partner with engineers on docs-as-code practices, structured content, and continuous checks for accessibility and style
Help federal teams sustain improvements by delivering training and enablement, and by leaving behind reusable resources such as templates, playbooks, and decision records
Qualification
Required
Experience shaping user-centered content across complex systems, including UX copy, documentation, or service content
Strong writing and editing skills with attention to plain language, inclusivity, and accessibility
Familiarity with accessibility standards such as Section 508 and how they apply to content
Ability to test and iterate content using research, prototyping, or data-driven approaches
Comfort working with engineers, researchers, and product managers to ensure accuracy and consistency
Commitment to equipping federal teams with documentation, training, and mentoring so improvements last beyond the contract
Ability to work effectively in a professional services environment
Passion for improving public outcomes through great government services
A mindset and work approach that align with Skylight's core values
Preferred
Experience designing content governance systems at scale (e.g., standards, workflows, design system integration)
Familiarity with compliance and security contexts such as Authority to Operate (ATO) processes
Experience with structured content, docs-as-code, or technical documentation for APIs or developer platforms
Track record of mentoring content designers and building content practices across organizations
Experience working effectively on hybrid or distributed teams
