Responsibilities
Installing and configuring virtual systems
Basic understanding of cable plant and server networking and connectivity
Documenting the configuration of systems' hardware and software
Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
Managing Microsoft OS-level security
Troubleshooting system problems, analyzing system logs, and identifying potential issues with systems
Monitoring and managing systems performance and adjusting as needed
Administering user accounts on systems (GPO, OU)
Working with other IT personnel to ensure systems are meeting VA needs
Managing backup processes and systems to ensure the ability to recover from system failures
Scheduling planned outages with minimal disruptions for users
Coordinating changes to existing systems through the appropriate configuration control manager
Ability to plan, install, configure and maintain file, web, application and SQL- server hardware and software a plus
Applying operating system updates, patches and configuration changes
Managing user authentication and access to services and databases to maintain systems security; configure access by user identification and role
Troubleshooting system problems and analyzing system logs; identifying potential issues with systems
Monitoring and managing systems' performance and making adjustments to computer memory, Central Processing Unit (CPU), storage technologies and network connectivity as needed
Managing backup processes and systems to ensure the ability to recover from system failures
Implementing and supporting all print services, including basic print servers as well as Government areas of responsibility associated with the local mailroom bulk printer system
VM administration and bare metal to VM conversion
Qualification
Required
Prefer at least 5 years of experience of IT system administration experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong technical documentation skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in dynamic team environment
Proven track record in demanding, customer service-oriented environment
Ability to communicate clearly with all levels within an organization
Excellent analytical skills, organizational abilities and problem-solving skills
Must be able to obtain and maintain public trust clearance
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or other Technical discipline required, OR a minimum of 5 years equivalent work experience
Preferred
Demonstrated experience in the use of Scrum and Agile methodology and processes
Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal organizations
