Director of MEP/FP Engineering
GPI / Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. is a multi-discipline engineering firm providing planning, design, and construction services for transportation infrastructure and building system projects throughout the United States. They are seeking a Director of MEP/FP Engineering to manage and expand their MEP/FP Engineering practice, enhance market presence, and provide leadership to the team in Albany, NY.
Responsibilities
Manage MEP/FP staff including design projects and coordination between disciplines
Perform design, evaluations, studies, construction cost estimating, and QA/QC reviews of designs prepared by others in accordance with company policies
Manage project budgets and employee utilization
Assist with project invoicing and client accounts receivable
Participate in membership with trade organizations, attend marketing and business development meetings and events
Develop both short-term and long-term strategic plans, create annual operating budgets, and share accountability for performance against these plans
Drive results by contributing to the achievement of revenue targets, profit goals, and broader company objectives
Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding each client’s business model and delivering tailored, value-driven solutions
Provide strategic insights to the leadership team and collaborate closely with other GPI Regional Offices doing Building Systems work to share knowledge, tools, and resources for cross-selling opportunities
Partner with the Director of Business Development to support sales efforts, including proposal development, contract negotiations, project closing, and ongoing client relationship management
Establish organizational goals and long-range forecasts in partnership with Marketing and Business Development
Foster a highly engaged, collaborative work environment and support the expansion of the design team through recruiting, developing, and retaining top technical and project management talent
Identify high-performing team members and create career development and advancement pathways
Ensure clear, consistent communication with staff regarding operational practices, goals, performance expectations, and overall enterprise priorities
Qualification
Required
A B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required, along with an active PE license in NY
Minimum of 15 years of industry experience with a proven record of success in both project management and engineering design
Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines
Possesses advanced technical engineering expertise paired with strong business and financial acumen
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong client relationships, quickly establish trust, understand client challenges, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels
Extensive experience developing, leading, and managing high-performing teams, with a history of positive employee relations and effective engagement across all levels of the organization
Strong organizational capabilities with the ability to assess talent, identify staffing needs, and recruit technically skilled professionals. Adept at creating a motivating and enriching work environment that supports employee growth
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, active listening abilities, and strong project management capabilities, with the ability to adapt, multitask, and manage competing priorities
Preferred
Experience in several of the following sectors is strongly preferred: Commercial Development, Multifamily, Life Sciences, Education (public or private), Healthcare, Data Centers, and Corporate Facilities
Knowledge with AutoCAD, REVIT and BIM preferred
