Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Systems
Peak Demand is a leading engineering consulting firm specializing in complex power and control systems. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the technical execution of major power system projects, mentor engineering teams, and influence design standards across the firm’s growing energy portfolio.
Responsibilities
Lead design and engineering for medium- and high-voltage systems (15 kV–230 kV, including substations, industrial distribution, and renewable interconnections
Perform and review power system studies: short-circuit, load flow, protection coordination, and arc flash assessments
Develop layouts, AC/DC panel schedules, grounding, and lightning protection designs
Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE/ANSI, and utility-specific interconnection standards
Serve as technical lead from concept through commissioning for utility, renewable, and industrial power projects
Develop scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and quality plans while maintaining technical oversight of drawings, calculations, and deliverables
Guide mid- and junior-level engineers, designers, and CAD teams on technical standards, project deliverables, and power system best practices
Foster development of internal tools, templates, and workflows to enhance efficiency and consistency
Provide mentorship and technical coaching to build a high-performing engineering group
Act as the principal technical contact for key accounts, participating in workshops, design reviews, and project meetings
Support proposals, scope development, and strategic account growth initiatives
Deliver value-driven insights that strengthen client relationships and enable future project opportunities
Qualification
Required
BS in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus
10 + years in electrical power engineering, with demonstrated expertise in utility or industrial substations and distribution systems
Strong background in protection and control, including MV/HV substations (15 kV–230 kV; experience up to 500 kV is a plus)
Experience managing complex projects independently, including scope, schedule, budget, and multi-disciplinary coordination
Hands-on familiarity with power system analysis tools (e.g., SKM, ETAP, EasyPower)
Knowledge of SCADA, RTUs, and industry-standard communications protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850)
Experience with grid interconnection studies, emergency power systems, or industrial facility distribution
Preferred
EIT or PE license
Exposure to renewable energy systems: solar PV, energy storage, or hybrid generation is a plus
