Director of Accounting
JLR Accounting & Consulting is the strategic partner for accounting and finance teams navigating complex reporting and operational challenges. They are seeking a full-time Director of Accounting to provide deep technical accounting expertise and lead complex reporting workstreams while mentoring accounting professionals.

Responsibilities
Lead or support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial results across multiple public-company or SOX-aligned clients
Prepare or review GAAP financial statements, management reporting packages, and supporting schedules; ensure disclosures comply with SEC and U.S. GAAP requirements
Research, analyze, and document technical accounting positions for complex or non-routine transactions (including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 805, ASC 718, ASC 815, impairments, consolidation, and other high-judgment areas)
Draft high-quality technical accounting memoranda and supporting documentation suitable for external audit review
Support or lead accounting for significant transactions such as acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, debt and equity financing, fair value measurements, and other critical business events
Evaluate and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls; support SOX/SOX-lite readiness programs, including documentation of flows, risks, controls, and remediation activities
Coordinate and communicate with external auditors, including managing PBC lists, responding to technical inquiries, and ensuring audit-ready workpapers
Oversee or mentor client accounting staff and JLR team members; provide structured feedback, support development, and ensure work quality across engagements
Collaborate cross-functionally with clients’ FP&A, Operations, Legal, HR, and IT departments to ensure alignment between accounting, business operations, and reporting objectives
Build and maintain strong working relationships with client leadership teams; act as a trusted advisor who delivers practical, actionable guidance and communicates complex matters clearly
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
CPA or equivalent licensure (required)
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a blend of Big 4/public accounting and public-company or SOX-regulated industry roles
Strong technical accounting background with demonstrated experience preparing technical memos and applying U.S. GAAP in complex scenarios
Deep experience with financial close operations, GAAP reporting, and internal controls (SOX 404, SOX-lite, or PCAOB audit environments)
Ability to lead multiple client engagements while managing competing deadlines and priorities with minimal supervision
Exceptional communicator with strong executive presence; skilled at working with senior leaders and cross-functional partners
Highly organized, proactive, and relationship-driven; comfortable operating in a fast-paced professional services environment
Must reside in CT, MA, NY, or NJ and be available during ET business hours
Preferred
