Responsibilities

Conducts hearings related to violations of Student Conduct Code and University policy violations, including those related to Title IX, Title VII, and other Civil Rights laws
Reviews voluminous documents and other relevant evidence
Listens to statements from parties and witnesses involved in hearings
Use reasoning, logic, and judgement to question parties, weigh evidence, judge credibility, and make decision based on the preponderance of the evidence
Interacts with attorneys, parents, and members of the public
Determines applicability of relevant rules and laws, complies with ethical standards, and communicates effectively
Writes outcome letters and issues sanctions as appropriate
Conducts administrative reviews of non-civil rights university rule violations, such as failure to report and consensual relationship rules

Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Law, Higher Education, Student Development, or related field
Four years of experience presiding over administrative, regulatory, criminal or legal proceedings
Knowledge of federal and state employment law and Civil Rights statues, including Title IX and VAWA
Skilled in actively listening to the statements of parties and witnesses involved in hearing, evaluating evidence, and judging relevance and credibility
Ability to make decisions and issue sanctions, adjusting as necessary based on mitigating or aggravating factors
Skill in office suite applications. Skill or ability to learn case management software and information management systems
Demonstrate strong organizational and time management abilities
Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines
Ability to keep order during administrative hearings
Ability to work effectively on a team or individually
Ability to learn and understand laws, policies and procedures and interpret processes
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to act with courtesy and to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Preferred

Advanced degree in law, higher education, student development, or related field
Experience in student affairs, student conduct, or related field
Certification in Higher Education, Legal, or related field
