Mechanical Engineer
The City of New York is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the Capital Division at NYC Parks, which manages the design and construction of public spaces. The role involves developing engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, as well as managing mechanical engineering projects and ensuring compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities
Under direction, develop drawings, specifications, quantity take-offs and cost estimates for mechanical engineering projects. Perform calculations required to complete these tasks
Perform design calculations for HVAC, plumbing, boilers and related systems
Conduct field inspections as required before and during design and construction, through turnover
Manage and coordinate mechanical engineering design projects and ensure that they remain on schedule and within budget
Manage consultant design contracts and review consultant designs
Prepare permit applications for seal and signature and submit to involved agencies for approval
Prepare detailed reports on the progress, budget and schedules of projects
Coordinate project-specific interagency issues, such as permits, filings and approvals
Present projects to Parks Commissioners, community boards, design commissions and others
Supply Capital designers with engineering component details as requested
Provide engineering assessments, opinions and services as requested
Complete conditions surveys, assessments, background research, feasibility studies and scope estimates on existing or proposed buildings and infrastructure
Qualification
Required
Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work
A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment
A masters degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the mechanical engineering experience required
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project
Preferred
A valid New York State Professional Engineer's license in mechanical engineering
Minimum of 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering design and/or project management
Knowledge in HVAC and/or Fountain and Swimming Pool recirculation systems
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Ability to produce designs and construction documents
Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills
Knowledge in PowerPoint, Photoshop, and mechanical engineering modeling software a plus
A driver license valid in New York State
