Business Development Events Manager
Thompson Coburn is a large full-service law firm seeking a Business Development Events Manager. This role involves comprehensive direction and management of external client-facing events, including planning logistics, budget management, and staff supervision.
Law Practice
Responsibilities
Oversee end-to-end event planning, including pre-event logistics, on-site coordination, and post event follow-up
Lead the planning event logistics such as venue selection, floor plan design, catering, AV, transportation and lodging to ensure the best value and quality
Manage and monitor event budgets ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality standards
Oversee contract negotiation and compliance
Manage expenses within agreed budgets and provide reporting to the Director, Business Development and Business Development Managers as needed
Oversee collateral production such as invites, swag, signage, and name tags
Provide performance-related coaching and feedback to direct reports. Formally review and evaluate the performance and work of team members; prepare performance evaluations and recommend compensation adjustments
Attend meetings and events and act as on-site manager
Oversee ticket allocation
Travel up to 20% of the time to attend and manage events on-site
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management or equivalent required
Minimum of 5 years of event management and/or planning experience, including experience managing hospitality vendors required
Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management/problem solving skills
Must have the ability to negotiate contracts effectively
Must have the ability to understand current and advanced AV technologies
Must work well under pressure
Must be punctual, have reliable transportation to offsite events and the flexibility to work weekends, evening, and the ability to travel as necessary
Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence
Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills
Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel
Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills
Preferred
Minimum of one year supervisory experience preferred
