Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting payroll functions for multiple ministries, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, and serving as a liaison between clients and internal departments.

Responsibilities
Manages end-to-end payroll processing for assigned ministries, ensuring timely and accurate execution by regulatory standards and organizational protocols
Serves as a primary point of contact for ministry clients on payroll and benefit-related matters, providing consultative support, best practices, and issue resolution
Partners with external vendors (e.g., Paycor) and internal departments to coordinate payroll processing, troubleshoot system issues, and ensure high-quality service delivery
Supports the onboarding of new ministry clients by entering employee data, setting up accounts, and facilitating payroll system training for administrators
Reviews and verifies timecards, calculates accruals (e.g., vacation, paid time off), and manages payroll adjustments to maintain data integrity
Balances payroll tax returns, validates tax deposits, and reconciles W-2 forms and general ledger reports against payroll records
Maintains secure and accurate payroll documentation by record retention and compliance guidelines
Monitors and processes employee benefits enrollment and terminations; coordinates with internal benefit teams to ensure accuracy and alignment
Assists with the preparation of payroll and benefits materials for ministry leaders; supports education initiatives related to plan features, payroll processes, and compliance
Contributes to process improvement efforts by identifying operational gaps, proposing solutions, and participating in system enhancements
Upholds confidentiality standards in handling sensitive ministry and employee data and reflect Christian values in all communications and client interactions
Qualification
Required
Associate degree or equivalent experience
Three (3) years of experience in payroll processing
Experience working with nonprofit or multi-employer payroll
Experience with payroll software (e.g., Paycor)
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Preferred
Bachelor's degree
One (1) year of experience in benefits administration
