PAAR Laboratory Research Operations Lead Technician

The Ohio State University is seeking a PAAR Laboratory Research Operations Lead Technician to support high-containment laboratory and animal research operations. This role involves the setup of research laboratories, operation of sterilization systems, and providing hands-on assistance with research procedures while ensuring compliance with biosafety standards.

Responsibilities

Ensure that all equipment and spaces are properly sanitized and prepared for experimental use
Operate and validate a variety of sterilization systems, including autoclaves, chlorine dioxide sterilizers, effluent decontamination systems, and tissue digesters
Manage the biological indicator program to ensure compliance with federal biosafety standards
Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for laboratory equipment, working closely with vendors and facility staff to maintain operational integrity
Provide hands-on assistance with research and experimental procedures, including animal handling, restraint, husbandry, and data collection
Collaborate with principal investigators and research teams to design and execute standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Interpret sterility testing data and adjust techniques to maintain experimental integrity
Liaise with the attending veterinarian to ensure the welfare of research animals and compliance with regulatory standards
Ensure strict adherence to the Select Agent Program and other regulatory guidelines by maintaining critical records related to training, SOPs, incident reports, and equipment validation
Assist with onboarding and training of BSL3 users, escort visitors, and verify protocol compliance
Develop, refine, and maintain SOPs for biosafety, biosecurity, and animal husbandry
Maintain incident reporting and revision logs for audit readiness
Manage inventory, supply ordering, and vendor coordination
Support database management and maintain facility readiness
Provide emergency and on-call services as needed

Required

High School Diploma or GED
4 years of relevant experience required (2 years with Associate's degree)
Ability to lift 50 lbs. required
