The Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an Intern within the Division of Financial Operations. This role involves preparing fiscal and operating reports, performing budget analysis, and serving as a primary contact for assigned programs while assisting with communication on financial matters with Federal and other grantors.

Responsibilities

Assists in developing the Department's budget request submittal, including developing and maintaining fiscal summary and resource information for assigned areas, including data such as caseload statistics, historical funding patterns, and fund sources
Assists in the development of presentation materials to explain or justify the funding priorities contained in the budget request
Assist in the development and implementation of Human Resources policies and procedures
Assists in tracking proposed or pending Federal and State legislation, providing updates on the status of legislation, and coordinating Department responses for the Legislature and the Governor's Office on possible impacts of policy changes or funding modifications
Researches and analyzes expenditures, revenue, and caseload trends to prepare external and internal reports and presentations

Required

Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Public Policy, or Political Science for an accredited college or university
Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business; then the following requirements apply: Driver's License Requirements
Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks
The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended
Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training
An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance
Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency's ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions
All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)
Knowledge of governmental accounting and fiscal principles; the budget process
Knowledge of principles and practices of administration with special reference to organization, fiscal management, and budgetary control
Knowledge of statistical analysis and theory; report writing techniques; and office practices and procedures
Skilled in oral, written, and presentation communications
Skilled in initiating expenditure corrections, journal vouchers, and cash receipts within automated systems
Skilled in analysis and interpretation of financial data, and computer and software utilization
Ability to perform difficult analytic work
Ability to write and speak with clarity; monitor appropriations, revenues, and expenditures; schedule and prioritize assignments; prepare and review Federal reports for grants applicable to assigned programs; assist in the development of annual budget requests for assigned area; write reports
Ability to develop databases; create marketing material and chart development; perform legal research; and serve on cross-team task groups as needed
