Marine Electrician (Entry Level) - Newport News, VA
Serco is hiring a Marine Electrician to support the U.S. Navy with equipment and C5ISR system installations. The role involves installing and repairing electrical services aboard ships and ensuring safe operations on U.S. Naval Ships.

Responsibilities
Install and repair wiring, fixtures, and equipment for all electrical services aboard ship and in shipyard facilities
Follow blueprints and wiring diagrams
Install conduit to bulkheads with brackets and screws, using hand tools, and threads wires. For example: connection boxes, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, and switch panels
Strips insulation from wire ends and solders ends to terminals, using stripping pliers and soldering iron
Connect power-supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, fire control, and other electronic equipment
Test electrical characteristics, for example, voltage, resistance, and phase angle, in circuits, using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and phase rotation indicators
Troubleshoot electrical equipment and circuits using appropriate test equipment to detect and effect required maintenance, repairs, or replacement requirements
Perform maintenance and repair of generators, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits
Conduct insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables to determine condition and effects repairs or replacements as required
Maintain adequate inventories of electrical spare parts and requisitions replacements as required
Lift up to 50 pounds with 80% of work requiring carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 40 pounds for majority of shift (while being in a standing, crouching, or walking position. Attention to safety critical)
Qualification
Required
The ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
A High School Diploma
6 + months experience in wire/cable pulling or electrical components
The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening
The ability to obtain an OSHA certification
The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking
Have attention to safety
Be able to get respirator qualified and wear proper PPE throughout their work shift
Must be willing to travel up to 10% to various work sites around the area
Preferred
An active Secret clearance
Shipboard experience
An OSHA 10 certification
Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation
