Regulatory Affairs Manager

Responsibilities
Identifying and escalating issues that require resolution by the Utility Strategy Director or other leadership within the South Carolina President’s organization, particularly where such issues are associated with implementation of the Act and utility commission proceedings or other regulatory activities undertaken due to the Act. Support regulatory inquiries and assist in negotiating resolution or otherwise lead the Company's formal responses. Communicate with customers, internal stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders as appropriate
Assist regulatory attorneys and business units to ensure that the tenets of Act are followed consistently with guidance from the Utility Strategy Director, the VP of Regulatory Affairs and Policy, SC legal counsel and subject matter experts as appropriate. Lead or support regulatory filings implicated under the Act including routine regulatory reports, rulemakings and discovery responses
Maintain positive working relationships with consumer advocate, Commission and regulatory staffs as well as external stakeholders. Serve as an effective intermediary between regulators and internal business units
Identify, research and analyze emerging regulatory and legislative issues associated with the Act, including matters before the Public Service Commission, to ensure the Company’s positions are harmonious with the broader regulatory landscape. Develop alternatives and make recommendations concerning Company responses. Coordinate with key internal and external stakeholders to promote resolutions in the interest of customers and the Company
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree AND five (5) years minimum required related experience
In lieu of degree and experience listed above, High School/GED AND 10 years minimum required related experience
Preferred
Detailed knowledge of Commission Rules, governing statutes, Company tariffs, and relevant regulatory rulings of precedent
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required
A fundamental understanding of the Company's business objectives
Effective negotiation and interpersonal skills
An understanding of the regulatory, political and business communities located within South Carolina
Excellent listening and communication skills and the ability to interact with internal customers, regulators, and staff in a professional, courteous, and empathetic manner at all times
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of professional adversaries in regulatory proceedings
Ability to thrive when working on complex and challenging issues, oftentimes with a compressed timeline
Ability to work outside of normal business hours when required
Ten or more years of directly relevant experience
Experience with the legislative and or regulatory processes is preferred
Prior work experience directly involving regulatory attorneys, and energy expertise is preferred
