Assistant Registrar, Cornell Tech (NYC)
Cornell Tech is Cornell University’s innovative campus in New York City focused on developing leaders and technologies for the AI era. The Assistant Registrar will act as a liaison between the Cornell Tech campus and the Office of the University Registrar, managing student enrollment processes, course scheduling, and maintaining academic records.
Education
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain accuracy of Cornell Tech master calendar to coordinate across degree programs, class schedules and academic events. Provide to other teams for event planning
Assure adherence to university policy and procedure and state and federal laws including FERPA and NYSED requirements
Conduct annual review and edits within University catalog
Oversee the maintenance and regular updates of general, program and faculty information
Analyze and validate data to provide accurate information to the respective schools in Ithaca, ensuring dissemination of commencement procedures for graduating students and resolving any data discrepancies or issues
Participate in business process evaluation with university and school registrars, enhancement, and re-design efforts that integrate new technologies
Advise students on course requirements for various programs
Communicate and advise students, faculty and staff on processes, procedures, and policies concerning student enrollment, grades, records, course management, room scheduling, website, and reporting within university systems
Serve as a policy committee member of Registrar meetings and make recommendations on behalf of Cornell Tech
Process approved student transfer credits from Weill, in accordance with established transfer practices
Collaborate closely with the Registrars at the Law School, SC Johnson College of Business, Graduate School and College of Engineering to track degree progress
Collaborate with external institutions in cross institution enrollment and creating visiting student records and enrollment into classes
Oversee class and exam scheduling; adhere to university policies related to class meeting times, final exams, etc
Oversee creation of academic documents such as customized degree verifications to third parties
Create and implement presentations on enrollment training for new and continuing students
Provide reports and update sensitive student data for internal campus and Cornell University parties
Provide historical class evaluation and roster data to Ithaca departments for faculty tenure review
Provide daily direction to the Academic Affairs Coordinator
Demonstrate understanding and operate in compliance with federal, state and university data privacy and security regulations, policies, and best practices relating to the access and use of student records
Creating, administering, and analyzing mid-semester evaluations for courses at Cornell Tech
Reviewing, validating and evaluating final course evaluations for technical classes and creating, administering, and analyzing final course evaluations for courses specific to Cornell Tech
Creating, collecting and evaluating student feedback about Cornell Tech programs and campus life through end of semester surveys
Working with new university student evaluation system once available
Make recommendations to Cornell Tech leadership in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Graduate Education about curricular, procedural, policy, and campus changes that will benefit students
Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) in the Student & Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS) for F-1 and other types of visa holders. Keep abreast of issues and policies that affect Cornell Tech international student body and ensure students are aware of any changes and address concerns
Work closely with the Assistant Dean of Graduate Education to act as liaison between students and school registrars, bursar’s Office, Office of Global Learning, financial aid, and other student facing offices
Support student events including orientations, PhD Visit Days, end of year events, and student community building events
Participate in projects or other duties as assigned with occasional work responsibility falling above or below current classification
Completion of any university required compliance trainings
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to multi-task and exercise sound judgment
Ability to work independently and with others collaboratively both on and across campuses
Experience supporting students from various backgrounds
Experience advising students on course requirements
Commitment to delivering excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and other constituents
Excellent understanding of FERPA, and ability to maintain confidentiality of important documents and student information
Strong technological skills, including proficiency working with the Microsoft suite, student information systems, and running and analyzing reports
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members
Preferred
Master's degree in higher education or a related field and five years of relevant experience
Experience with PeopleSoft, Qualtrics, and 25Live
Experience with training individuals on how to use various systems and developing efficient ways to solve complex problems
Experience working with graduate students and faculty
Experience providing student immigration advising
