Public Benefits Supervisor

The Public Benefits Supervisor will oversee public assistance programs, manage a team of eligibility staff, and ensure compliance with state standards while supporting the community's access to essential services.

Responsibilities

Support access to public assistance programs while guiding and developing staff
Oversee the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
Provide direct, daily supervision of a team of approximately 6–8 eligibility staff responsible for processing new applications and managing ongoing public benefits cases
Monitor service delivery to ensure compliance with state timeliness and accuracy standards through daily report review and case monitoring
Provide on-site supervisory support for customers visiting or contacting the agency
Staff training, performance planning, collaboration with community partners, and supporting staff professional growth

Required

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field related
Three (3) years of professional experience in a social services public benefits department including one (1) year supervisory experience
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF program principles, policies, and practices
Ability to interpret complex public assistance policy and ensure case accuracy and timeliness
Experience developing and delivering presentations and trainings
Strong supervisory and administrative skills, including performance evaluation and coaching
Excellent communication skills with staff, customers, and community partners
Ability to handle difficult situations with professionalism and remain calm under pressure
Experience researching customer service issues and recommending solutions
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Pass pre-employment background check including criminal, credit, CPS, and DMV checks
Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification)
Hold (or obtain, if so permitted) licenses required by law for assigned position
Hold and or obtain additional certifications required by the Department
