Staff Accountant
Wayne Perry, Inc is a leading environmental consulting, construction, engineering, and maintenance firm dedicated to delivering innovative solutions since 1968. They are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Staff Accountant to manage core accounting functions and support construction-specific financial controls while collaborating closely with Project Managers and Operations.
Responsibilities
Perform General Ledger accounting, including journal entries, month-end close, and account reconciliations
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Support annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory compliance
Manage job cost accounting for labor, materials, equipment, expenses, and subcontractors
Review and process AIA billings, progress billings, change orders, and retention
Maintain work in progress (WIP) schedules and percentage of completion reporting
Oversee Certificate of Insurance (COI) compliance for subcontractors and vendors
Verify coverage meets contractual and project requirements
Track expirations and ensure renewals are received prior to payment or site access
Coordinate with project teams and risk management as needed
Supervise and mentor the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Purchase Order (PO) teams
Establish priorities, workflows, and performance expectations
Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, billings, collections, and commitments
Review team output for accuracy, compliance, and alignment with project budgets
Improve AP/AR workflows and implement process efficiencies
Oversee the creation, approval, and maintenance of purchase orders
Ensure POs align with approved budgets, contracts, and change orders
Monitor PO commitments, variances, and closeout
Coordinate with project managers and operations to resolve PO discrepancies
Maintain accurate and organized financial records
Assist with accounting system enhancements and software integrations
Provide ad hoc reporting and financial analysis for leadership
Support cross functional initiatives and special projects as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3–6 years of accounting experience, preferably in the Construction industry
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Preferred
Prior experience managing or supervising AP and AR functions
Experience with accounting software (Great Plains preferred)
