Structural Engineer
City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management is seeking a Structural Engineer to review structural construction plans and ensure compliance with regulatory codes. The role involves responsibilities such as conducting structural plan reviews, conferring with customers regarding construction, and making engineering design computations.

Responsibilities
Reviewing structural calculations as it applies to live loads, dead loads, roof loads, rain load, snow loads, wind resistance loads, and soils engineering
Application of structural engineering principles and practices to practical field and construction problems
Interpreting and applying federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
Conferring with internal & external customers (i.e., engineers, architects, contractors, and owners) regarding proposed construction, alterations, or changes in buildings for conformation with the requirements to current &/or applicable codes
Conducting structural plan reviews for commercial buildings
Making engineering design computations, comprehensive studies, preparing reports, and recommendations for internal and external customers
Reviewing various scope of work submittals, including New Construction, Exterior/Interior Alterations, High-Rise Buildings, Open & Enclosed Parking Garages, Above & Below Grade Parking Garages, Deep Piled Foundations (Cast-In-Place & Pre-Cast Concrete, etc.), and other complex structures
Initiating special inspection procedures, determining acceptability of reports, and aiding other plans examiners on structural matters
Investigating new materials and design or construction methods for acceptability and then making recommendations to the Chief Building Official
Conducting field investigations for structural failures, potential hazards, complex structural problems, and preparing recommendations
Understanding and interpreting engineered plans, specifications as it applies to building and/or structures to be designed & constructed in accordance with strength design, load and resistance factor design, allowable stress design, or conventional construction methods
Provides guidance as it applies to the enforcement of rules, regulations, and requirements for structural projects
May perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering with major coursework in structural engineering
Four (4) years related work experience
A professional Engineer license issued by the State of Georgia with a focus on structural engineering
Valid Georgia State Driver's License
Knowledge of modern structural engineering including recognized standards applied to the design and construction of a wide variety of reinforced concrete, steel, and timber structures
Knowledge of the application of existing laws, ordinances, and current & applicable codes (i.e., ACI 318, AISC, ASTM, IBC, etc.) relative to structural engineered and construction projects
Knowledge of the application of structural engineering principles and practices to practical field and office design and construction problems
Knowledge of interpretation and application of federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
Ability to make engineering design computations and check engineering plans and studies
Ability to make comprehensive studies and preparing reports and recommendations
Ability to understand and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
