Electrical Platform and Manufacturing Engineer
The Will Group is a family of companies serving the construction and utility industries, and they are seeking an Electrical Platform and Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design, development, and manufacturing readiness of a UL 67-compliant panelboard product line. The role involves owning the electrical design authority, defining scalable design standards, and ensuring that the product is manufacturable and compliant with UL standards.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end electrical and mechanical design of UL 67 panelboard products, including schematics, layouts, bus design, and compartmentalization
Define scalable design standards, reference architectures, and modular product families
Create and maintain controlled engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, and ECNs
Translate designs into manufacturable work instructions, assembly processes, and test plans
Establish wiring standards, torque requirements, labeling, and inspection criteria aligned with UL expectations
Prepare and manage UL submission packages, witness testing, and follow-up inquiries
Act as the engineering interface with UL inspectors and third-party test agents
Map certification dependencies across UL 67, UL 891, UL 845, and UL 1558 and flag technical risks early
Partner closely with fabrication, assembly, and shop leadership to ensure safe, high-quality execution
Drive continuous improvement focused on efficiency, cost reduction, and product quality
Qualification
Required
6–8 years of experience in electrical or electromechanical product design for industrial power distribution
Direct experience developing UL 67 panelboards from concept through listing
Strong CAD skills using SolidWorks, Autodesk, or similar tools
Deep understanding of bus systems, SCCR, insulation systems, and enclosure design
Experience preparing technical documentation for UL or other NRTLs
Comfort working in environments with limited existing engineering infrastructure
Familiarity with shop operations such as bus fabrication, wiring, welding, and assembly
Preferred
Experience with UL 891, UL 845, MCCs, or fault containment architectures
Prior interaction with UL, ETL, or other certification bodies
Product lifecycle ownership in a manufacturing environment
PE license or active pursuit
Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and manufacturing quality systems
