Data and Evaluation Advisor

The City of Seattle's Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) is dedicated to ensuring that all Seattle children succeed in school and life. They are seeking a Data and Evaluation Advisor to lead data collection and analysis initiatives that support K-12 strategies and improve student outcomes through effective program evaluation and collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Acting as the lead on K-12 quantitative data: its collection, storage, and analysis
Supporting the development of K-12 data infrastructure
Calculating performance metrics for K-12 programs
Working with technical and programmatic partners to implement a database solution for K-12 data collection
Managing the flow of quantitative data from partners, to upload to a SQL database, to data cleaning and analysis, to workbooks published on Tableau Server
Supporting the use of racial equity lens in data preparation, interpretation, analysis, and reporting to inform policy decisions and program implementation
Implementing and maintaining a performance monitoring and data cleaning regime for K-12 programs: creating and maintaining Tableau workbooks using complex joins and calculations (fixed, table, etc.) and publishing them to Tableau server; working with IT staff to periodically update Tableau server user list and troubleshoot refresh issues; and incorporating stakeholder feedback to improve workbook activity
Completing ad hoc data analysis requests in a timely and efficient manner
Displaying complex data and information in a simple, visual, and understandable format for internal and external stakeholders using business intelligence tools including SQL, Tableau and MS Excel
Managing overall project quality through the entire evaluation lifecycle: project planning and carrying out the design; research question formulation; data collection (e.g., templates, surveys, and other protocols); analysis; synthesis; and reporting
Overseeing and conducting data management, coding, and analysis
Analyzing qualitative and quantitative data for trends and process improvement opportunities
Collaborating strategically with internal and external partners to develop and track annual performance outcomes and indicators for K-12 school investments
Conducting longitudinal analysis to evaluate progress and impact
Conducting analyses and presenting results to inform discussions and decision-making regarding the City's K-12 strategies, as well as strategic planning efforts for the Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise (FEPP) Levy and new founding streams

Required

Experience in Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep and Tableau Server
Data visualization, analytics, reporting & data management
Designing reporting dashboards
K-12 education data and/or experience working with Seattle Public Schools data systems
Demonstrating your commitment to listening, creating space for diverse perspectives, and the pursuit of inclusive and just outcomes must be at the center of your professional practice
The ability to manage projects
The ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders that include a representative of elected officials or executives on significant issues for the purpose of garnering support, shaping opinions, advocating controversial positions, and achieving equity in educational outcomes
The ability to combine information from multiple sources and varying perspectives to make recommendations
The ability to demonstrate cultural awareness and responsiveness
The ability to present data and evaluations to audiences with varying levels of comfort with data
The ability to demonstrate strong communication and storytelling skills
