Responsibilities

Prepare and review payroll tax filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Reconcile payroll accounts and perform balance sheet reconciliations related to payroll taxes
Assist with the preparation of financial statements and reports, interpreting financial data for internal stakeholders
Maintain detailed records of payroll transactions, tax payments, and regulatory filings
Support internal audits by providing documentation and explanations related to payroll tax activities
Ensure adherence to SOX compliance standards and internal control procedures
Collaborate with HR and finance teams on payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance issues
Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or other financial tools for accurate bookkeeping and reporting
Assist in budgeting processes related to payroll expenses and tax liabilities
Monitor changes in tax laws affecting payroll taxes and update processes accordingly
Support special projects related to mergers & acquisitions, corporate accounting, or financial planning as needed

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Proven experience in payroll tax processing, accounting, or financial analysis within a corporate or public accounting environment
Strong understanding of GAAP, tax regulations (including securities law), and regulatory reporting requirements
Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms; experience with financial software is essential
Knowledge of double entry bookkeeping, account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and general ledger accounting
Excellent analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and prepare detailed reports
Strong understanding of financial concepts including debits & credits, asset management, mergers & acquisitions, budgeting, and investment strategies
Experience working with payroll systems and performing account analysis related to accounts payable and payroll processing

Preferred

CPA or equivalent certification preferred
Familiarity with estate planning, wills & trusts law, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credits), non-profit accounting, and private equity is a plus
