Public Works/Engineering - Sr. Civil Engineer (VDOT)

Responsibilities

Oversees planning, design, and construction activities with a strong focus on infrastructure management
Working independently with limited supervision
Reports progress through periodic meetings
Contributes directly to the success of essential public works projects
Requires frequent travel throughout the city
Extensive contact with city departments and related outside agencies
Requires some duties to be performed after normal working hours and outdoors in all weather conditions
Considered 'essential personnel' during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules

Required

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in civil engineering
Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Virginia or ability to obtain by reciprocity within one (1) year of employment
Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion

Preferred

Some experience on VDOT funded projects preferred
