Accounting Manager, Tax/Inventory

Petro Marine Services is a Government Contractor and an Equal Opportunity Employer. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing tax and inventory accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate payment of business taxes, and managing inventory reconciliations.

Responsibilities

Train and lead tax/inventory accounting staff (this position will have two direct reports)
Ensure excise taxes and sales taxes are reconciled and paid in a timely and accurate manner
Ensure customer tax exemptions are accurately managed and up to date
Conduct company-wide inventory reconciliation monthly, evaluate gains, losses, and throughput from an operational and financial perspective
Oversee accounting for company barge operations; direct investigation and communication of discrepancies to Barge Division Manager and/or Supply Chain Director
Oversee accounting for inventory transactions related to various special cases (cost exchange/allocation, intercompany transfers, custody of third-party fuel, hedging, etc.)
Ensure bulk fuel stock receipts and c-store shift entries are posted in a timely and accurate manner, initiate corrections when necessary
Reconcile excise tax, sales tax, and inventory general ledger accounts monthly; prepare/review adjustments as needed
Ensure government mandated reports are submitted in a timely and accurate manner
Act as the point-of-contact for all inventory, c-store, and tax accounting system inquiries
Gain an in-depth understanding of bulk fuel inventory accounting and develop solutions to resolve inventory accounting errors
Develop a basic knowledge of federal, state, and municipal tax law as it pertains to the sales of bulk fuel in Alaska; work with the Assistant Controller to resolve fuel tax issues
Other duties as assigned by Controller/Assistant Controller

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
Minimum of 2 years related experience in an accounting or finance environment; prefer audit/process evaluation experience
Requires thorough understanding of Microsoft Office Suite programs
Must have excellent communication skills and be effective in oral and written communication
Experience in preparing and conducting internal audits
The ability to work independently with minimal oversight to complete assigned duties by target deadlines
Requires knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
