The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan is seeking an experienced Assistant Prosecuting Attorney III for the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office. The role involves managing a caseload of misdemeanor and felony cases, authorizing warrants, and preparing cases for trial under the supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney.

Responsibilities

Responsible for managing a caseload of misdemeanor and felony cases. May be assigned some of the more serious or sensitive felony matters
Reviews criminal warrant requests from law enforcement agencies, analyzes police reports, collects input from the law enforcement officers, researches the law as necessary to determine applicable criminal charges, and determines whether adequate grounds exist to authorize a warrant. Determines the appropriate charge to be made and directs law enforcement investigations
Researches and prepares criminal cases for trial. Requires little direction in filing appropriate motions and is well versed with Michigan Sentencing Guidelines. Skilled in legal research, developing trial strategies and mentoring young APA’s. Executes service of process upon Defendants via certified mail or actual service and executes vouchers for service of process in other jurisdictions
Extensive experience as an Assistant Prosecutor in all court proceedings including; arraignments, motions, trials, sentencing
Possesses some appellate experience with excellent research and writing skills
Extensive experience in working with law enforcement on investigations, arrest procedure, search and seizure, etc
Participates routinely in 24/7 on-call attorney rotation
All other duties and functions as assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney or Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney

Required

Law degree from an accredited law school
A minimum of 10 years of prior prosecutor experience
Extensive trial experience in serious felony cases
Responsible for managing a caseload of misdemeanor and felony cases
Reviews criminal warrant requests from law enforcement agencies
Analyzes police reports and collects input from law enforcement officers
Researches and prepares criminal cases for trial
Skilled in legal research and developing trial strategies
Extensive experience as an Assistant Prosecutor in all court proceedings including arraignments, motions, trials, sentencing
Possesses some appellate experience with excellent research and writing skills
Extensive experience in working with law enforcement on investigations, arrest procedure, search and seizure
Participates routinely in 24/7 on-call attorney rotation
Ability to access filing systems
Ability to enter and retrieve information from case management system
Ability to generate various documents from computer system
Bending, stooping and kneeling when filing and retrieving documents
Ability to access all courtrooms within the County
Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time
