Range and Training Land Assessment (RTLA) Technician

Responsibilities

Conducts inventory and monitoring of natural resources on Army training lands
Documents resource conditions to support informed land‑management decisions
Evaluates the land’s ability to withstand impacts from military training activities
Helps maintain training lands to ensure high‑quality, realistic training environments
Works to minimize environmental damage resulting from training operations

Qualification

Bachelor of Science degreeSustainable Range knowledgeArcGIS Pro experienceVegetation data collectionLand management principlesMS Office proficiencyCommunication skillsMotivated self-starter

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or related field
Sustainable Range and ITAM Program knowledge and experience
Knowledge of South Puget Sound native plants, as well as noxious weeds
Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative vegetation data from a developed data collection protocol
Experience creating and editing maps using ArcGIS Pro software
Trimble/ArcPad or iPad/Field Maps experience
Experience in data collection, land management principles, mission training support requirements, and report preparation
Physical ability to conduct day-long field work across varying terrain and under differing weather conditions
Strong written and oral communication skills and proficiency with MS Office applications (Word and Excel) is required
Successful completion of a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance for a Common Access Card (CAC) is required

Preferred

Individuals already possessing an adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) are preferred as well as prior Air Force experience
