University/College Success Coach

PONTIAC SCHOOLS DISTRICT PROMISE ZONE AUTHORITY BOARD is seeking a University/College Success Coach to assist and guide students in retention and completion efforts. The role focuses on providing mentoring, coaching, and support to enhance student engagement and success in post-secondary education.

Responsibilities

Provides mentoring and coaching for students to develop and accomplish their personal, academic, and professional goals. Assist students in creating a post-secondary completion plan
Assists students’ processes related to PPZ application renewal, admissions process, registration, financial aid, and other related topics, ongoing
Refers students to appropriate internal and community-based programs and support services
Serves as a liaison between students, high school counselors and college admissions departments
Assists with the development of student success, retention, and completion materials and presentations to support individual and group sessions
Maintains accurate/updated records of students who have sought assistance
Responsible for understanding, supporting, and actively demonstrating the PPZ mission, vision, and values
Engage at-risk, underserved, first-generation, low income and differently abled students providing one-on-one ‘no choice’ meetings to improve engagement and ensure success
Trains and coaches students regarding time management and goal setting/achievement
Develops and implements procedures for intake, monitoring, and assessment of student progress in accordance with program and grant guidelines
Tracks and maintains department expenditures activities and verifies against the grant budget
Attends and plans PPZ school activities and events to interact with future PSD graduates and their families
Executes responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws and the organization’s policies and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Associates/bachelor's degree in a related field
Minimum two years of work-related experience assisting and assessing students/clients in academic and/or life skills
Basic knowledge of the organization and operations of a University campus, student government, student organizations, and services provided to the student body
The need to assist students in creating post-secondary completion plans that include internships, resume writing, or industry presentations
Ability to serve as a liaison between students, high school counselors, and college admissions departments
Focus on the development of student success, retention, and completion materials and presentations that support individual and group sessions, with a particular emphasis on college/university major/minor programs
Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, such as word processing, databases, and spreadsheets, and the ability to master new technologies
Ability to handle confidential information
Ability to type and enter data with speed and accuracy within Salesforce
Ability to conduct frequent bi-weekly check-ins with scholars
Ability to understand instructions and follow detailed procedures consistently
Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work in a fast-paced environment with numerous interruptions, and meet deadlines
Skilled in maintaining and updating records and related systems
Ability to effectively communicate and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing
Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with staff, students, faculty, the public, and other professional contacts
Ability to critically assess situations, maintain attention to detail, solve problems, work efficiently under stress, within deadlines, and changing work priorities
Ability to work with the Board of Directors as needed

Preferred

Experience working with low-income and/or first-generation students preferred
