ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST III **Contractual** Hazardous Materials Compliance Specialist
The Maryland Department of the Environment is hiring for a Contractual Environmental Compliance Specialist III (Hazardous Materials Compliance Specialist). The incumbent will ensure compliance at hazardous materials transportation facilities and provide roadside DOT enforcement and regulatory oversight for transportation-related incidents involving hazardous materials.

Responsibilities
Ensure compliance at hazardous materials transportation facilities and during en-route shipments in accordance with Maryland State regulations and applicable federal requirements
Provide roadside DOT enforcement, emergency response, professional technical assistance, and regulatory oversight for transportation-related incidents involving the release or the potential release of regulated hazardous materials and substances
Support hazardous materials enforcement activities and incident mediation efforts statewide
Qualification
Required
Six years of experience performing environmental regulatory compliance work in the areas of water pollution control; sediment and erosion control; tidal and non-tidal wetlands; flood control and waterway construction; storm water management; coal, non-coal and surface mining; air quality and air management control; solid waste management; hazardous waste control; and oil pollution control
Current certification in North American Standard (NAS) Parts A and B through FMCSA/CVSA is required
Current certification as a General Hazardous Materials Inspector through FMCSA/CVSA is required
Current certification as a Cargo Tank Inspector through FMCSA/CVSA is required
Current certification as an Other Bulk Package Inspector through FMCSA/CVSA is required
Possession of a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland
Must obtain the CVSA Level VI HRCQ and Transuranic Waste Inspector Certification within 1 year of employment
Participation in the Maryland Department of the Environment Medical Monitoring Program (MMP) is required
Preferred
Experience serving as a Hazardous Materials Technician or as a functioning member of a hazardous materials response team
Experience responding to hazardous materials incidents, including mitigation, containment, or support operations
Experience operating an emergency vehicle in the course of official duties
Experience investigating or assisting in post-crash vehicle collision investigations, including identifying pre-crash and post-crash vehicle defects
