Geotechnical Staff Engineer

Responsibilities
Assist with geotechnical site investigations, including soil and rock sampling, borehole logging, field testing, and data collection to support project design and analysis
Perform laboratory soil testing such as moisture content, Atterberg Limits, Proctor compaction, specific gravity, grain size analysis, and strength tests in accordance with ASTM/ODOT standards
Support the evaluation of subsurface conditions by analyzing field and laboratory data under the supervision of senior engineers
Conduct engineering calculations for bearing capacity, settlement, lateral earth pressures, slope stability, and pavement design
Utilize geotechnical engineering software including Slide, Settle3D, Lpile, and other modeling tools to assist with analysis and report development
Contribute to the preparation of geotechnical reports by summarizing findings, preparing figures, and boring logs, interpreting laboratory/field data, and drafting engineering recommendations
Ability to work with others and be able to travel to job site as required
Work collaboratively with project engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support design development and project assessments
Assist in reviewing project plans, specifications, and background information to support geotechnical evaluations and project planning
Participate in field and laboratory testing programs and perform quality checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity
Support communication with internal teams, subcontractors, drilling crews, and vendors to coordinate field operations and materials
Help ensure all work is completed in accordance with company health, safety, and environmental policies
Maintain organized project documentation, logs, field forms, and laboratory records per company and regulatory standards
Assist with cost estimating and proposal preparation by compiling technical data and supporting documentation
Participate in quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes to support consistent and accurate deliverables
Continually develop technical skills through training, software use, and engineering mentorship
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or a related field
0-3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, field investigations, or construction materials testing (internship or co-op experience welcomed)
Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and working with project teams
Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
Willingness to work in both field and office environments and travel to project sites as needed
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate a proactive, collaborative mindset
Preferred
Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
Familiarity with geotechnical concepts, laboratory and field testing methods, and soil/rock behavior
Exposure to engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or geotechnical tools (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, LPILE)
Basic understanding of construction methods, site safety, and environmental regulations is helpful
