Responsibilities

Provide expansion and growth of the Test Laboratory capabilities and productivity by performing research activities through the development and implementation of new methods and/or scientific equipment
Perform research, recommendation, and qualification of new scientific instrumentation and equipment
Supervises research projects by determining and assigning tasks, timelines, and milestones for the completion of sponsored research projects
Act as mentor/model for less-trained/skilled personnel, providing professional insight into laboratory procedures
Act as Test Laboratory representative on various committees
Jointly responsible for maintaining a safe working environment and implementing safe operating procedures to ensure an accident-free record and continued compliance with all corporate and governmental regulations
Perform laboratory equipment maintenance, update, and repair within capabilities
Maintain equipment parts and supply inventory

Required

Interacts with other engineering groups to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications
Identifies functional problems and suggests resolutions
Assists in the definition of internal quality control standards and the maintenance of reliability programs
Documents and analyzes test cases and provides regular progress reports
Ensures testing procedures are in compliance with any required industry specific standards

Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software, such as Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software
Ability to work well under pressure
Knowledge of record keeping techniques and procedures
Ability to develop close working relationships across departments
Skill in coaching, developing, and training others
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required
Advanced data interpretation skills and advanced laboratory expertise required
Advanced knowledge of chemistry or engineering theory required
Knowledge of laboratory test techniques with regard to performing tests, collecting and documenting data, required
Bachelor's degree with advanced coursework in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or closely related scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
The legal right to work in the U.S. and comply with Export Control Regulations required
Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred

Knowledge of qualification and composites testing processes preferred
Understanding of advanced laboratory techniques/practices and industry standards (i.e. ASTM, Nadcap, ISO, SRM, etc.) preferred
Coursework in basic statistics preferred
