Server Engineer - IT Operations
Expedite Talent Solutions is seeking a Server Engineer to remotely monitor and maintain the Department of Aviation's physical and virtual servers. The role involves troubleshooting issues, ensuring server performance, and developing processes for server management and security.

Responsibilities
Fully support, configure, maintain, and upgrade physical and virtual servers at the Department of Aviation
Keep an eye out for needed updates
Troubleshoot and evaluate server connectivity issues
Monitor server performance (availability, utilization, throughput, and latency) and test for weaknesses
Resolve problems reported by end users
Define network policies and procedures
Research and make recommendations on the Department of Aviations server infrastructure
Stay current on all technology platforms and systems to ensure the users get the requirement functionality to perform their job
Respond, resolve, or ensure issues are resolved when assigned to me by the Service Desk
Write technical and end-user documentation for assigned projects
Provide all necessary system, maintenance, and disaster recovery plan documents
Perform system installation support and ensure all necessary system security requirements
Responsible for researching and problem resolution and must coordinate activities with IT support staff as required and document findings
Maintain software licenses and maintenance support from software vendors
Follow division team handbook, policies and procedures, software standards, software development lifecycle and change management
Work collaboratively with others to achieve team and organizational goals
Prioritize projects and/or tasks
Provide constructive input to achieve team goals
Deliver a customer-focused, responsive service to customers
Support efforts to enhance business efficiency and effectiveness
Demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude
Respond constructively to new information, changing conditions, and unexpected obstacles
Prepare management reports related to system audit, availability and performance as needed
Submit appropriate change order documentation for moves, adds, and changes of the systems
Serves as a technical resource or mentor to other employees
May lead or instruct less experienced workers in high level or technical jobs
May give presentations to upper management on upgrades and server improvements and findings
Qualification
Required
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Engineering or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)
5 years of server experience
Knowledge of concepts processes and tools utilized in the operation of a Network Operations center
Experience with proactively ensuring networks, server & environmental infrastructure is available & secure
Strong Microsoft Office and telecommunications software skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to apply experience and professional knowledge to carry out assignments in professional area
Ability to apply knowledge across organization or discipline lines
Good oral and written communication skills
Good technical writing, people skills and customer service skills
Thorough knowledge & understanding of Server infrastructure and OS
Familiar with Windows Domain, Active Directory, DNS, Telnet, DHCP, FTP, SSL
Hands-on VMware skills
Active Directory
Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 environments
Candidate must have current drivers license
Candidate may be required to lift 40lbs and stand or walk for long periods of time
Candidate must have the ability to work flexible hours including weekends or on-call rotation
The applicant must be able to manage multiple projects and/or task concurrently
Must be a self-starter and be able to use own judgment/initiative to undertake activities with minimal supervision
The candidate must also have excellent oral and written communications skills as well as the ability to work alone or within a team environment
Applicants employed in this position will be required to work extra hours, as needed, and to be on-call for scheduled after-hour emergencies and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed
Preferred
Masters degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the masters degree on an exception basis) with 5-8 years' of directly related professional work
VMWARE, AWS, Azure Cloud and / or ITIL highly desired
