Responsibilities

Develop and execute a comprehensive donor communications strategy and annual calendar that includes newsletters, impact reports, personalized stewardship pieces, and digital content
Create and refine consistent messaging that educates and inspires donors and prospects by clearly articulating the organization’s mission, programs, and impact
Define key donor segments and tailor messaging and engagement strategies for each group, including major donors, mid-level donors, scholar alumni, and corporate / foundation supporters
Support the President’s work with donors by preparing customized reports, profiles, and stewardship materials for meetings, proposals, and follow-up
Build a communications infrastructure to support future planned giving outreach and education
Lead the creation of donor-centric materials including thank-you letters, donor spotlights, giving impact stories, and annual report content
Design and maintain systems for tracking stewardship touchpoints, ensuring timely follow-up and consistent engagement
Generate regular and ad hoc reports from the donor database to monitor engagement, giving trends, and campaign performance
Oversee the integrity, accuracy, and usability of the donor database in partnership with the Database Coordinator
Conduct periodic audits of engagement efforts and donor communications to assess impact and identify opportunities for improvement
Use regional needs assessment research and data to inform donor engagement strategies and storytelling priorities
Establish KPIs and dashboards to monitor and analyze donor trends, stewardship effectiveness, and communications outcomes
Lead the planning, promotion, and execution of the annual community celebration event, ensuring alignment with donor engagement goals and overseeing the work of the Administrative Coordinator in support of this event
Collaborate with staff, vendors, and volunteers to create meaningful donor experiences at events and site visits
Supervise the Database Coordinator to ensure donor data accuracy, reporting efficiency, and CRM maintenance
Partner with colleagues and volunteers to ensure accurate, compelling content and data is shared with donors
Serve as liaison to finance for reconciliation of gifts and revenue reporting related to donor engagement

Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum 7–10 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor communications, stewardship strategy, or a related field
Proven experience developing and implementing segmented donor communications strategies across multiple platforms
Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with a talent for translating data and program information into compelling donor stories
Demonstrated ability to analyze donor trends, campaign performance, and fundraising metrics to inform strategy
Experience planning and executing donor events or cultivation experiences
Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills
Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to exercise mature judgment
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and initiate and complete tasks with minimal supervision, exercising discretion and independent judgment
Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and platforms
Advanced user experience within Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and relational databases or donor CRM systems (such as DonorPerfect, Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, or similar)
A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders in meaningful ways
Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
Ability to handle confidential information and donor data with discretion and ethical standards
Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours to support evening or weekend events
Ability to communicate fluently in English
A valid driver's license is required for occasional travel to offsite events and donor visits

Preferred

Advanced degree or certification in nonprofit management, communications, or fundraising
Familiarity with planned giving, alumni engagement, and philanthropic trends
Experience supporting executive-level fundraising efforts and preparing customized materials for high-net-worth donor cultivation
Understanding of nonprofit legal, finance, and compliance considerations related to donor stewardship and data management
