Responsibilities

Rotate through PPA teams (typically each summer, fall, and spring) such as Panel Assembly Workshop (PAWS), and Solution Engineering Design team, with exposure to other departments across PPA. Learn each team’s day-to-day role while gaining a deeper understanding of the full project lifecycle
Dive deep into the mechanical side of customer solutions. Translate electrical schematics and customer requirements into mechanical panel designs by:
Create panel layouts that show how all components fit inside a control panel
Design cutouts, door holes, and mounting arrangements to integrate relays, control devices, and displays
Build 3D CAD models and assemblies that balance functionality, manufacturability, and customer specifications
Specify bill of materials (BOMs) for mechanical parts and documenting design packages for release to manufacturing
Support design reviews with electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration between mechanical and electrical requirements
See your designs come to life on the shop floor. In PAWS you will:
Gain hands-on experience assembling protection & automation panels from 2D drawings and 3D models
Support wiring, routing, and component installation, ensuring fit and function match the design
Develop 3D routing harnesses to improve wiring efficiency and ergonomics
Learn best practices in manufacturability and assembly, identifying improvements that reduce errors, save time, and improve quality
Collaborate with technicians to troubleshoot design-to-build gaps and propose solutions for future projects
Assisting with and completing mechanical design tasks for protection and automation panel projects
Developing and revising 3D models and 2D layout diagrams for control and protection panels, including consideration of wiring space, component placement, and thermal management
Performing basic heat dissipation and ventilation calculations to support panel design requirements
Supporting material creation in SAP and assist with procurement-related documentation
Helping maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for production and engineering reference
Contributing to daily group activities and collaborating closely with electrical and systems engineers to ensure integration of mechanical and electrical designs
Gaining exposure to industrial automation systems including HMIs, relays, and RTUs from Siemens' product portfolio
