TEMPORARY Colorado River Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician

The Colorado Department of Natural Resources is dedicated to preserving the state's natural resources and is seeking a Temporary Colorado River Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician. The role focuses on educating the public about aquatic invasive species through outreach programs and supporting the State Invasive Species Program with various tasks including watercraft inspection and data entry.

Responsibilities

Support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach to non-motorized water recreation groups on the Colorado River at designated boat launches
Educate outfitters, anglers, hunters, and non-motorized watercraft users about aquatic invasive species and how to properly clean, drain, and dry their equipment
Provide surveys, attend user group events and expositions, and educate recreational outfitters
Perform leadership duties to accomplish statewide objectives for education and outreach
Serve as the lead communicator between the ANS Specialist and crew members
Ensure all crew members are respectful, and conflict management occurs when needed
Ensure the crew has all necessary working equipment for the week’s operations, maintain equipment in good working order, and report any problems or issues directly to the ANS Specialist
Host regular check-ins with staff to address ongoing needs

Required

Excellent driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays
Ability to drive long distances and remain alert
Ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning and late evenings
Must be willing to be flexible with daily/weekly scheduling as field work may be dictated by weather
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to approach and engage public
Reliable and timely
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
Ability to self-motivate and work independently

Preferred

Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment
Ability to trailer cleaning units on highways and steep mountain roads
Excellent customer service skills and/or experience working with the public
Experience with Microsoft and Google applications
Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education
