Adult Language Learning English Teaching - Paid Intern

The International Institute of St. Louis is a nonprofit organization serving immigrants and refugees. The Adult Language Learning English Teaching Intern will support English instruction for adult learners, assist with lesson planning, and foster an inclusive classroom environment.

Responsibilities

Teach adult ESL classes (2–3 per week)
Assess student language proficiency, including pre- and post-testing
Prepare and adapt lesson plans and instructional materials
Maintain required documentation (attendance, lesson plans, assessments)
Support student engagement, confidence, and participation
Communicate regularly with the English Program Coordinator regarding student progress
Participate in meetings, trainings, and other duties as assigned

Qualification

Required

Current student or recent graduate in TESOL, MASLA, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field
Strong English language skills
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Zoom
Flexibility to work evenings and in-person and/or remotely as needed

Preferred

Prior tutoring or teaching experience
WhatsApp experience
