Start in 2026 WinterNEOGOV is seeking an Internal Audit Intern to assist the City of Lubbock Internal Audit team in planning and executing audits and process improvement projects. The role involves interacting with city departments, conducting audit testing, and completing various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities
Obtains evidence from audit and process improvement clients
Executes audit programs to achieve audit objectives
Assists staff analyze and summarize research data for departmental operations, processes, and performance metrics
Takes detailed, objective notes and minutes during committee and interdepartmental staff meetings and consultations
Participates in planning, collaborating, and executing implementation strategies for continuous improvement models
Assists in editing and submitting proofs of audit and process improvement documents
Additional duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Current Undergraduate or Graduate student in Public Administration, Business, Finance, Social Sciences, or a related field
Demonstrates effective oral and written communication
Is willing to receive a Six Sigma Yellow Belt within the first month of employment
Strong research and writing skills
Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration and municipal government
Basic understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
Use of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite programs
Ability to interpret and summarize complex data, and participate in creating innovative solutions
Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships
Ability to clearly communicate at multiple organizational levels
Maintain the ability to frequently walk and stand
Occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds
Benefits
Part-time employees who have at least six (6) months continuous employment may be paid for all holidays except the Veterans Day floating holiday.
The City designates the eleven (11) following dates as holidays to be observed with pay: New Year’s Day – January 1, Martin Luther King Day – Third Monday in January, Good Friday – Friday before Easter, Memorial Day – Last Monday in May, Independence Day – July 4, Labor Day – First Monday of September, Veterans Day – November 11 (Floating Holiday), Thanksgiving Day – Fourth Thursday in November, Friday after Thanksgiving (Fourth Friday in November), Christmas Eve – December 24, Christmas Day – December 25.
