The role involves identifying and soliciting projects to bid, analyzing contract documents, preparing detailed cost estimates, and developing effective relationships with clients and contractors.

Construction

Responsibilities

Identify and solicit projects to bid within the company's core markets
Analyze and interpret contract documents including engineering plans, specifications and geotechnical reports
Prepare detailed cost estimates
Perform quantity take-off analysis
Solicit and analyze supplier and subcontractor proposals
Prepare risk assessment analysis through the evaluation of contract documents and geotechnical reports
Work in a team environment, assisting and training other estimators
Develop standardized estimating systems and databases
Strive to build effective relationships with clients, architects, engineers, specialty contractors and suppliers
Read and interpret pertinent bid documents and plans
Perform quantity takeoffs from civil construction plans and documents
Develop the project scope and identify necessary disciplines
Identify subcontractor roles
Evaluate DBE participation to ensure project goals are met
Identify constructability issues
Identify value engineering opportunities
Coordinate pre-bid activities and inquiries with the Chief Estimator
Develop and review project estimates and schedules
Provide direction and assistance to junior team members
Develop and deliver project bid packages

Required

Experience as an Estimator in heavy civil construction
Ability to analyze and interpret contract documents including engineering plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
Experience in preparing detailed cost estimates
Proficiency in performing quantity take-off analysis
Ability to solicit and analyze supplier and subcontractor proposals
Experience in preparing risk assessment analysis
Ability to work in a team environment and assist and train other estimators
Experience in developing standardized estimating systems and databases
Strong relationship-building skills with clients, architects, engineers, specialty contractors, and suppliers
Ability to read and interpret bid documents and plans
Experience in developing project scope and identifying necessary disciplines
Ability to identify subcontractor roles
Experience in evaluating DBE participation
Ability to identify constructability issues
Experience in identifying value engineering opportunities
Ability to coordinate pre-bid activities and inquiries
Experience in developing and reviewing project estimates and schedules
