Responsibilities
Performs maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment
Tracks all maintenance of vehicles and equipment using various software
Maintains workshop and equipment yard
Assists with purchases and sales of vehicles and equipment as well as yearly budgets
Assists public works crews as needed
Removes snow on city roads and city properties
Trains public works employees on all vehicles and equipment
Performs various metal and wood fabrications as needed on vehicles, equipment and other projects
Operates and drives heavy machinery and equipment to perform tasks as needed
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required
Considerable experience maintaining vehicles and equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of automotive cars, trucks, construction and maintenance equipment
Thorough knowledge of and skill in the use and operation of shop tools and machinery
Thorough knowledge of safe work practices
Ability to detect by inspection any worn or broken automotive parts
Ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems
Ability to interpret and work from sketches, diagrams and installation and repair charts
Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately
Ability to prepare and file simple written reports
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and vendors
Valid commercial driver's license with Class A endorsement, or the ability to obtain within six months of hire
